Kelly Brown, Executive Director at Next Step Domestic Violence Project was our guest speaker. She spoke about what she and those at Next Step have learned from survivors. She shared different areas of abuse which include “power and control,” physical abuse, emotional abuse, financial control, isolation from support groups and others. Survivors continue to “teach us” to be better. She shared that “Safety Planning” is what the agency does along with numerous programs and services offered. They do have legal council on site, however has lost funding for the second attorney. Volunteers are always welcome, with training provided. Currently, the agency covers Washington and Hancock counties and employees 17 people.
