Guest Speaker: This week’s guest speaker was Christina “Chrissi” Maguire. Chrissi has worked at MDI Hospital Organization for over 10 years and currently is the President and Chief Executive Officer for the Mount Desert Island Hospital Organization which encompasses the MDI Hospital and the Birch Bay Retirement Village located in Bar Harbor, Maine.  Chrissi has been in or around the Healthcare arena for over 25 years, her acumen for health care, financial structure and innovation is most noted in our ongoing strategic efforts and commitment to moving Hospital’s forward in an ever-changing fiscal environment.

Chrissi talked about the history of the Hospital. Since it was established in 1897, the non-profit hospital has grown into a premier rural healthcare organization with a retirement community and six primary care health centers, as well as a full-service behavioral health center and a dental clinic.

Today, MDI Hospital employs more than 500 people and is the second-largest employer on Mount Desert Island.

A new MRI unit is coming to the hospital. It has broken ground on the project. The fixed-place MRI allows for better imaging services. They are hoping to be able to give their first scans by mid-August. The cost of the project is about 3.5 million.

 Respectfully submitted by Ashley Johnson
