
Past President Jo Cooper called the meeting to order. She welcomed everyone to our first Adult Education Recognition evening.
She provided opening remarks and brief overview of what Rotary is.
Guests attending the meeting included Max Dietshe, Domenic Efter, Ellen Koors, Annie Sargent, Emily Nash, Michellle Dawson and special student guest Phelecia Allen Muzima.
Jo thanked Tony and Julie Bouchard for serving as Sergeant at Arms, Debbie Ehrlenbach for taking notes and pictures, Michael Houlsen for managing AV and Gene Pellerano for preparing tonight’s program.
Stacie Brown provided an update for the August 2nd Blueberry Pancake Breakfast. All hands on deck for this community service event and fundraiser. Everyone is to arrive by 6:00 am on Saturday. Friday at 3:00 will be the setup. On Friday, meet at Next Step to help with moving all the grills and related items from storage. Tickets are available from Stacie if you haven’t yet gotten yours. Please get your ticket money in as soon as possible. 12 propane tanks are needed and we are shy 4 tanks. Please bring a tank on Friday by 3:00 pm labeled with your name.
Max Dietshe representing the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry shared an invitation for the fundraising event “Pour it Forward”. A wine tasting event to be held Thursday, August 21st 6-8pm at Bar Harbor Cellars Winery in Bar Harbor. He circulated the invitation.
Jo shared a thank you letter the club received from Centro de Protesis for the club’s $4800 donation.
The 50/50 drawing of $9 was won by Ray Williams and given to the happy dollars cause for this quarter, Cody’s Closet.
Happy dollars were collected from many members. Fred Byers celebrated his 80th birthday and the club sang happy birthday to him.
Gene Pellerano introduced the Adult Ed Program and thanked Laura for providing dessert and Domenic and Arlyn for their generous donation of gift cards given to each of the honor students. Each student received an award, 4-way test coin and $25 gift card. Students receiving recognition include Sandy Martin, Cayden Lamboy-Cruz, Matthew Grever, Michael DeWitt, Phelecia Allen Muzima, and Rhiannon Hubbs.
Annie Sargent, Director Ellsworth Adult and Community Education shared information about the program at the center, its mission and some profiles of the honor students. Students are nominated by the staff for honor society. Emily Nash, Student Advisor and Academic Teacher introduced honor student Phelecia Allen Muzima sharing her success story.
The Center has relocated to Avery Lane and is working on updating its website and catalogs. We are all invited to come see the new location.
We meet next week July 29th at China Hill. Mark Politte owner of Stanley Subaru will be our guest speaker. Jo closed the meeting.
