Program/Speaker: Christopher Lewis, President of the American Wheelchair Mission was our guest speaker this evening.

Chris is a member of the Rotary Club of Los Angeles and lives with his family in Las Vegas, Nevada. Five days after the launch of Sputnik in 1957, Chris was born into the world of show business. His father, Jerry Lewis, was the number one box office start in the world and had just completed his 6th Annual Telethon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Jerry helped establish MDA in 1952 and raised over 2 Billion dollars for the cause during his lifetime.

Chris became involved in the fundraising effort early in life and worked on the MDA Labor Day Telethon for 39 years.
He spent years handling his father’s film and television distribution and then in 2000 came the opportunity to help create a worldwide wheelchair delivery mission.
Chris helped create and sustain a humanitarian mission that delivered over 760,000 wheelchairs to people in more than 150 countries and in 2009 created the American Wheelchair Mission to continue and expand the outreach worldwide.

In the past eight years, the organization has delivered brand new wheelchairs and mobility aids into the lives of the poorest of the poor throughout the world and to Veterans across the United States with the Knights of Columbus.

Chris shared a video of a few wheelchair missions he was apart of. Very moving!
